This was the
Trans-Europe Pyjama Party 2024
On Friday 25th October 2024, at 18:30 UTC groups across Europe held a cross-continental silent disco pyjama party in 🇪🇸 Barcelona, 🇩🇪 Berlin, 🇩🇰 Copenhagen, 🇩🇪 Erfurt, 🇪🇸 Gijon, 🇩🇪 Hamburg, 🇵🇹 Lisbon, 🇬🇧 London, 🇫🇷 Nantes, 🇩🇪 Stuttgart and 🇨🇭 Zurich!
Why were we doing this?
Trains are the most climate-friendly form of transport, and planes are the least friendly. In order for more people to choose the train over the plane, we need more services and more affordable ticket prices. Night trains and long-distance trains are particularly needed in order to replace air travel. We are asking for more services across Europe, and for certain regulations to be changed in order to make this easier. Find out more about what we’d like to see here.
How a silent disco pyjama party works:
Participants assemble at the station wearing pyjamas and other nighttime outfit, for example an eye mask. Feel free to bring pillows and teddy bears too! With a magic QR code, everyone tunes into the same DJ live set, played through headphones on their phone.
The DJ set:

FAQ (for future parties)
Will there be material available?
There can be different leaflets for different regions which will contain the same message but might spotlight the local situation. If you are organising an event we can send you a handful of leaflets to an address you provide in the form above.
What kind of music will be played?
We will be supported by a professional DJ, who will provide us with nice house music or danceable classics from all over Europe (like in this Eurodisko spotify playlist or like in Victor Le Masne’s Midnight Radio #1).
Is it legal?
While having a political rally in a station could be forbidden in some countries it is neither forbidden to wear pyjamas (or a sleeping mask or to carry a pillow) nor to dance to the music you are listening to. So if you don’t want to risk being expelled from the station, avoid looking as though you are attending a political rally: don’t carry signs with political messages (although showing desired train destinations on a small piece of cardboard was o.k. in past events), don’t actively distribute leaflets, and don’t address an audience. And don’t obstruct passengers, of course.
What do we dance for?
Trains are the most climate friendly means of transport, planes the most unfriendly one.
- We support the EU Commission’s ambition to establish a European night train network. We demand this to cover all of Europe from Lisbon to Tallinn and Narvik to Palermo.
- Europe shall take all the necessary measures in order to put this network into existence as quickly as possible. This includes that where night trains can not operate commercially the EU and national transport ministries should give the necessary aids.
- Implement an easy and unified ticketing system to support long distance train trips with different operators but the passengers right guarantees of a single trip.
To really achieve this:
- When allocating track capacity night trains should be given priority. As they mainly replace planes they have the highest potential to reduce GHG emissions.
- Night trains should be treated as a separate traffic segment allowing to improve conditions like track access charges specifically for them.
