Step 1: Write
- Please add links to existing pages. Please link the English Version. When translating, the link title will be translated, but not the URL. As there is always an English language version but not always all translations this way you are on the safe side.
Step 2: Illustrate
- To have a consistent style we use a filter for all photos: “Dramatic Cool”. Whith ths Filter red – orange colours which we don’t use in our Corporate Design are dimmed, and contrast is increased. Some of the photos in our Flickr Account have already this filter applied.
- Our standard image ratio is 16:9
How to process the filter on a Mac:
- Import the photos you would like to use in the “Photos” standard app delivered with MacOS
- Click “Edit”.
- Click “Crop. Then choose as aspect: 16:9
- Click “Filters”. Then choose “Dramatic cool”
- Click “Auto enhance” (the magic wand icon beside the “Done” button right on top).
- Choose “Export” from the menu and save as JPEG with a max width of 1600
- Before uploading, please rename the file. Add reverse date, location, subject, CC-license and photographer in the filename like this:

- After upload please add a caption (visible text under or on the picture) and an ALT-Description (image description for blind or visually impaired people) in English in the Word Press Media library, so this info is saved with the picture.
How to use photo licensing correctly:
- If the photo is yours and you give us permission to use it on our website: Please upload it to our Flickr account, add your name in the metainfo and tag it with a suitable Creative Commons license (typically CC-BY-NC 3.0).
- If the photo is protected by copyright and you have permission to use it on our website: We need a written permission and some documentation. Write on which day and to whom and by which means (e-Mail/SMS etc.) the permission was given in the notes in our media database in WordPress.
Step 3: Translate
First make sure everything is final. Text, links, images, captions, data … as the translations will not update automatically. If you still find errors, after translation you may correct errors in every single language version (not fun).
- Save the original language version as a draft (or publish immediately)
- Change the language in the language menu in the black bar on top. A blank page will appear
- Look for the “Language” menu, which is in the “Page” tab in the page settings, either on the right side menu which you can toggle with the button left of the “Publish” button (top right) OR in the menu below the page
- Press the grey “Copy content from [language]” button ([language] will always be the last visited language version). This will copy your content in original language version into the new version.
- Important! Now save the draft and reload the page with the browser.
- Now look for the “DeepL Translation” menu in the “Page” tab in the page settings and under “Translating to:” choose the currently active (target) language. After a couple of seconds everything is translated.
- Now save the page as a draft or publish the new language version.
- Important! Don’t go back to the next language, but first to the original language e version and then to the next target langugae. This will make sure you are offered to copy text from the original version, not from a translation.
