Terms of Reference for the Advocacy Working Group

The working group develops and updates B-o-T position papers which are presented to the general meeting and to the Board for approval.

The working group has a particular focus on common European policy, developing consultation responses and comments on policy coming from the European institutions. The working group attempts to coordinate advocacy positions carried out by the national B-o-T groups and by B-o-T, Europe.

The working group may propose press releases based on adopted positions and can publish with consent from the Board.

The working group has a special responsibility to maintain and develop contact with MEPs and their assistants, so that B-o-T has a close dialogue with politicians involved in transport and with the relevant officials in DG MOVE and other European organisations.

The working group communicates its initiatives to general meetings and the Board. And coordinates with the working group for communication on these matters. It is important that all members can use the policies and know where to find them.

The working group ensures coordination to the Board via the Board’s designated liaison. The working group typically holds virtual meetings once a month and minutes are taken from the meetings.

Due to the strategic character of our work some information must be treated confidential. We report to the General Meetings. But we don’t publish minutes to all members. And Chatham rules will apply to details from our discussions.

These terms of reference are updated once a year at the initiative of the working group itself.
