The night train map
Have you ever wondered to which destinations you can travel by night train? Are you looking for inspiration for your next holiday? Then we got you covered: This is a map of all night train lines currently running in Europe, based on our night train database. The database and map are updated regularly to reflect time table changes and announcements of new night train services.
How to use our night train map
The colours indicate which operator’s website is best for booking. All websites are in English and offer online booking (TCDD Taşımacılık: translation does not work on splash page but in the booking engine). We are in the process of adding more information – line by line – from our night train database, to make our map fully interactive.
Is the map complete and up to date?
If a line is missing or has been discontinued, please let us know. Note that we adhere to the following rules when deciding whether to add a night train to our map and how to display it:
- We only add trains that offer sleeping or couchette cars.
- We add irregular services only if they run at least weekly for three subsequent months.
- We do not add luxury cruise trains or car trains that do not allow booking without a vehicle.
- We add future lines when they are announced for the current year’s timetable.
- We aim to provide an overview, so we can not display all stops.
- Lines, stops and end points are not necessarily at their exact geographical location.
Usage Rights
You can use the map freely under CC-BY-NC 3.0 rules. Please credit our work in this form: (CC-BY-NC) Juri Maier / Back-on-Track.eu providing a link to this page if technically possible. Please contact us if you want to use the map for commercial purposes.
Printable version: The programme used for maintaining the map does not export print-optimised versions. For professional tools that can export a printable version with every update we lack funding. However, there is a sufficient margin for A2 printouts, so any designer will be able to import the PDF and the fonts in a professional vector design programme like InDesign and provide you with a printable version within 10-15 minutes.
Our design was inspired by the great works of Jug Cerovič, theflyingindonesian and the night train poster of buerodespraesidenten/Green EP Group.
Would you like a professional print?
Our night train map is printed annually in February/March as a poster which can be ordered below. We don’t send single copies because individual posters in a C4 envelope get creased too easily – so order one for you and and make somebody else learn more about night trains. The price covers only cost of printing, packaging and postage (to all regular addresses worldwide). So feel free to round up the price if you would also like to support our work.
Quality print:
Format A2 on 100g/sqm bright white recycled paper with vegetable oil (palm oil free) based colours. The poster is twice machine-folded to A4.
Payment:
With your order confirmation you will receive account details and payment instructions by bank transfer to the e-mail address you proviced.
Invoice:
You will receive a VAT-free invoice with the posters. If you top up the amount, we will also issue a donation receipt, which is tax-deductible (at least in Germany).
Delivery time:
We process orders 1-2 times per month. Quantities up to 18 are sent by mail which usually takes up to a week.
